Think Spring! Think Green! Think Renewed Life!
Think Organ, Eye and Tissue Donation!
The GREEN 5K Fun Run and Walk is coming up Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Centennial Park in Waukee, and we want you to show us how you get your green on!
Help us promote organ, eye and tissue donation during the event by wearing your favorite shades of green. Green shorts, green shoes, green hats, green body paint, green accessories you name it — if it’s green, wear it!
With the Waukee run and walk being My Angel Foundation’s only run and walk this year the fundraising is very important! The fundraising goal for the 2016 GREEN 5K Fun Run and Walk is 30K! This year’s proceeds will go toward supporting the installation of a gift of life memorial at UnityPoint Hospital in Des Moines to honor organ, eye and tissue donors and the foundation’s continued efforts of spreading awareness about organ, eye and tissue donation awareness through efforts like our Power of Yes program.
What is The GREEN 5K?
Everyone is invited to participate in the GREEN 5K, which is designed to spread donation awareness by commemorating the lives of donors, celebrating the lives of recipients and recognizing the lives of those waiting for a lifesaving transplant.
Why GREEN? Green is commonly associated with organ donation awareness!
UnityPoint Gift of Life Memorial for Organ, Eye and Tissue Donors
My Angel Foundation is excited to announce a portion of this year’s proceeds will go toward the development of a gift of life wall installation at UnityPoint Health Hospital in Des Moines to honor organ, eye and tissue donations that were facilitated at that hospital.
“The foundation is honored to partner with Iowa Methodist Transplant Center on the development of this special memorial for those who have given the ultimate Gift of Life and Hope through organ, eye and tissue donation. It is the foundation’s hope that we will be able to support and guide the development of additional donor memorials in the future at other Iowa hospitals,” said Ted Cochran, founder of My Angel Foundation and a kidney recipient.
Who can participate?
This year, we’re looking for business teams, church teams, school teams, sport teams, friend teams, neighbor teams — any group that wants to raise money to promote the importance of organ, eye and donation throughout Iowa.
All those who have been impacted by organ, eye and tissue donation are encouraged to participate. No matter your skill level — whether you run, walk, stroll, wheel, volunteer, cheer or make a charitable donation — the GREEN 5K is a great way to support this life-changing cause.
Registration is open!

Did you know?
Did you know when My Angel Foundation was founded in 2007 there was only around 90K Iowans on the Iowa Donor Registry. Drum Roll….in 2016 Iowa Donor Network is expecting the Iowa Donor Registry to near closer to the 2 Millionth Iowan to register! This run and walk had a huge impact in making that possible. The GREEN 5K is My Angel Foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year and all proceeds go toward programs like The Power of Yes (www.thepowerofyes.org) to educate Iowans about Organ, Eye and Tissue Donation and how to become a registered donor on the www.IowaDonorRegistry.org and the development of a gift of life memorial installation at UnityPoint Hospital.
