My Angel Foundation C.A.R.E. Run and Walk To Be Held in May
The annual 5K and 10K run and walk raises awareness for organ, eye and tissue donation.

WAUKEE, Iowa — Drawing hundreds of participants statewide, the 6th Annual C.A.R.E. 5K and 10K Run and Walk for Organ, Eye and Tissue Donation Awareness will take place Saturday, May 4th, 2013 in Waukee. C.A.R.E. stands for Compassion for Awareness, Remembrance and Education.

This fun and inspiring event, hosted by the My Angel Foundation, helps spread awareness about the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation by commemorating the lives of donors, celebrating the lives of recipients, and recognizing the lives of those waiting for a life-changing transplant.

More than 605 Iowans and nearly 118,000 men, women and children nationally are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. On average, 18 people die every day while waiting for organ transplants in the U.S., and another name is added to the waiting list every 11 minutes.

Anyone is invited to run, walk, wheel, volunteer, cheer, donate or fundraise in support this life-changing cause. My Angel Foundation has a fundraising goal of $35,000 for this year’s event. Individuals who raise $2000 or more will receive a iPAD Mini, $1,500 or more will receive a Kindle Fire, $1,250 or more will receive a iPod Nano 16GB, $1,000 or more will receive a iPod Shuffle 2GB and $500 or more will receive a My Angel Foundation hooded sweatshirt.

More information and registration can be found online at MilesOfCare.com or MyAngelFoundation.org.

My Angel Foundation Gifts More Than $10,000 to Support Organ, Eye and Tissue Donation Awareness

Waukee, IA- Two organizations, vital to organ, eye and tissue donation transplants, are the recipients of grants issued by My Angel Foundation. Iowa Donor Network and Iowa Lions Eye Bank each received grants that will be used to support those organizations efforts to enhance awareness of the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation. The money raised for the grants was the culmination of multiple fund raising events throughout the year by My Angel Foundation. Those events included a 5K & 10K run and walk in both Waukee and North Liberty. Ted Cochran, President of My Angel Foundation says, “”Iowa Donor Network and Iowa Lions Eye Bank are perfect matches for My Angel Foundation. Supporting their organ, eye and tissue donation educational efforts is helping My Angel Foundation fulfill our mission.”

Both Iowa Donor Network and Iowa Lions Eye Bank each applied for grants from My Angel Foundation. Iowa Lions Eye Bank will receive $5,750 for the creation of a marketing video to promote awareness about eye donation. Iowa Donor Network received a grant in the amount of $7,100. The money from that gift will be used to develop a smart phone friendly Iowa Donor Registry application, DMV outreach efforts, social media marketing efforts, and special event promotional items (green bracelets and lapel pins). Chris Keahi, Public Affairs Coordinator at Iowa Donor Network says of the grant, “We are extremely appreciative to have received this grant from Mr. Cochran and his foundation. These funds will be used to help us increase our efforts to raise awareness on the importance of organ, tissue, and eye donation throughout Iowa.”

My Angel Foundation is now in its 4th year as a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit. The organization is already planning other fund raising events for 2012. Those will include the continuation of its popular C.A.R.E. 5K & 10K run and walks in both central and eastern Iowa. Cochran says “The number of volunteers and participants in these fundraising events continues to inspire the organization to raise funds to help in the effort to educate the public about the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation.” Currently today there are over 600 Iowans waiting on the National Transplant Waiting List and over 112,000 nationally waiting.
